As a New Orleanian, it’s no surprise to me that so many couples choose to elope in New Orleans – I mean, why wouldn’t you?! Of course, I’m also a rational person that understands there are many options and difficult choices to make when planning an elopement. Here are my top five reasons to tie the knot in the big easy!
A Rich History and Culture
Referred to as “the most European city in America,” New Orleans has a rich history and culture throughout all its neighborhoods. While you can spend time in museums and on tours to discover the history (and we suggest that you do), if you don’t get a chance the culture is hard to miss. It’s found in the musicians playing on Royal Street, the streetcars taking you from uptown to downtown, and the delicious food you’ll eat for every meal!
Many Things For Your Guests To Do
I recently photographed a couple who chose to get married in New Orleans after debating between it and… the Bahamas! When I asked how they landed on New Orleans, they said that as beautiful as the Bahamas were, there was a lot less to do (really, just the beach) and they felt more pressure to put on multiple events for their twenty family members flying in for their destination elopement. New Orleans, however, required no planning whatsoever – their cousins went bar hopping, their nieces and nephews went to the zoo with their parents, the father went to the WWII museum! New Orleans has a vast array of activities for any age group which means guests can fend for themselves during their off time – no planning needed on your end!
New Orleans is known for some of the best food in the country, and it does not disappoint! From oysters at Superior Seafood, poboys at Parkway, and beignets at Cafe du Monde to drinks at the Carousel Bar, candlelit dinner at Brennan’s, and dessert at Couvant, there are too many incredible food experiences to count. No matter where you’re staying while you’re here, we can give you a full list!
For such a small town (as far as acres go), New Orleans packs a punch with its photo locations – from the regal Jackson Square, colorful homes of the Marigny, and moody alleyways of the French Quarter all the way down St Charles to the Garden District, the stunning Tree of Life at Audubon Park, up to the bayous and Spanish moss of City Park there is literally something for every style of couple. Our venues include a Garden District mansion, a quirky compound by the river, an old Spanish market, a storied and classic New Orleans restaurant, and a historic pharmacy museum in the heart of the French Quarter. It’s hard to believe all these locations are just a few miles from each other!
The Cost, The Weather, and The Location
Can you see I tried to fit in a few here at the end?! The majority of our couples are from up north, where planning a wedding is typically 2-3x the cost of a New Orleans wedding. Whether you’re on a budget or would rather put that money toward a house or a killer honeymoon, New Orleans’ cost of living has got you covered. Our goal is to give you a beautiful wedding ceremony without the exorbitant price tag! The weather in New Orleans is moderate most of the year, meaning there’s literally more time in the year to throw an outdoor wedding and explore the city throughout the week! New Orleans is also centrally located and for many cities is a quick nonstop flight away.
